I take this issue very seriously and applaud MLB for their awareness of the subject.

I agree with Sooze though in regard to PP. We all have to be ensured the money we donate is going to help those who are conducting research and trying to find a cure, not some banana head sitting behind a desk doing the cost analysis.MoonDoghttp://moondogsports.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807670.post-15687695068920575192008-05-12T13:13:00.000-05:002008-05-12T13:13:00.000-05:00It is a promotion to raise money for research, it ...It is a promotion to raise money for research, it is not a political statement. How about giving money to get HPV vaccines to more pediatric clinics, for example? HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer. A vaccine for HPV is basically also a vaccine for cervical cancer.

But I do agree, it's great that they are so active.horsecrazylizahttp://horsecrazyliza.livejournal.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807670.post-36452556161181682162008-05-11T18:05:00.000-05:002008-05-11T18:05:00.000-05:00Here is my ten cents on this: I think it's great t...Here is my ten cents on this: I think it's great that MLB does this, but I really wish the breast cancer lobby would team up with the cervical/ovarian cancer lobby, and just make it women's cancers. Plenty of women make deal with these cancers every year, and not many ovarian cancer patients make it. Paps are just as important as mammograms, and we have to start paps much younger. I like to believe though, that Komen's foundation -- in all aspects -- somehow helps to find a cure and provide treatment. That's the trouble with most organizations: sometimes motivation heads in the wrong direction.Soozehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06244595602514803118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807670.post-24737185465264538952008-05-11T10:06:00.000-05:002008-05-11T10:06:00.000-05:00One more comment and I'll shut up:I have no proble...One more comment and I'll shut up:

I have no problem with PP at all. I sincerely think it's great that they are there and that people can use their services without the sort of public attitude we may have seen 50 years ago.

My issue is with the way Komen donates to them. I don't think a lot of people realize that when they donate to Komen (especially in the name of a loved one that may be a BC survivor) that their money is being siphoned away to some other interest.

I didn't mean to cause trouble!joshua zerklenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807670.post-10316265912983453722008-05-11T09:59:00.000-05:002008-05-11T09:59:00.000-05:00I like to keep my politics and sports two separate...I like to keep my politics and sports two separate entities, but since you brought it up, I'll bite. PP has helped young girls across the country find information on pregnancy, birth control, sexually-transmitted diseases, emergency contraception, abortion rights, etc. since the early 1920's. Not everyone may agree with these choices, but that's one of the things that makes our country great: the ability to choose. Regardless the motive, cancer research is expensive and time-consuming, and I'm happy to see MLB doing its part to donate.

If a cure was rolled out tomorrow, I'd like to think the relief of women across the world would overshadow the greed of others.Soozehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06244595602514803118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807670.post-8058362104338046772008-05-11T09:51:00.000-05:002008-05-11T09:51:00.000-05:00Breast cancer has become a multi-million dollar in...Breast cancer has become a multi-million dollar industry now. Not all of that money is going to research; some of it goes to Komen's political interest, like Planned Parenthood, for example.

Think of the donations they would stand to lose if a cure was actually rolled out tomorrow. I'm sure that they have.joshua zerklenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807670.post-11011200641467546682008-05-11T09:36:00.000-05:002008-05-11T09:36:00.000-05:00What a great way to help find a cure for breast ca...What a great way to help find a cure for breast cancer.
