I have no idea whether it's true of Strasburg or not, but the nature of youth baseball today is such that kids as young as 10 years old are playing (and pitching) in multiple leagues and (in climates that allow it) year round, before they ever get to HS and college. No matter how careful MLB organizations are with prospects, more often than not significant damage has been done long before they shell out the bonus money.If I had a young son with a canon for an arm, I'd be coaching his youth teams myself, playing him at SS most of the time and only occasionally letting him pitch.
