The Chicago Cubs exercised Rich Harden's $7 million option Wednesday, keeping the right-hander around for 2009.
Harden, acquired by the Cubbies in early July from the Oakland Athletics, lost Game 3 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday night, his final game of 2008.
As for the rest of the season, the 26-year-old flame-thrower went an impressive combined 10-2 with a 2.07 ERA over 25 starts. Battling arm issues throughout his entire 6-year career -- though an MRI as recent as Tuesday revealed no tears in his rotator cuff or labrum -- Harden was 5-1 with a 1.77 ERA (12 starts) with Chicago.

Anon- I'll make the announcement this evening. :)
maybe if they spend even MORE $$ they'll make it as far as the NLCS next year?
