Up until Thursday, Rocco Baldelli had not played nine innings of baseball all season long.
The Tampa Bay Rays outfielder and fan favorite suffered from mitochondrial disorder, causing muscle fatigue and slow muscle recovery, stealing the first four months of his season and forcing him to become a part-time player.
So how does Rocco make his playoff comeback? In style, of course. Scrappy, even. He threw a runner out at first to lock down a double play, had a badass collision at the plate on a scoring attempt in which he was totally thrown out but totally mauled backstop Carlos Ruiz, and topped it off by beating out a throw at first to prevent a DP. Wheels!
Welcome back, Rocco. Officially.
