Perpetual trade-bait turned-free agent Jacque Jones is a first place Florida Marlin now.
The 33-year-old Jones was dumped by the last place Detroit Tigers on May 13th, batting just .165 over 24 games before the Marlins saw some sort of buried potential in the center fielder. After all, he once hit .285 with 27 home runs and 81 RBIs for the Chicago Cubs, whose fans quickly turned on him for whiffing in every single other at bat of the 2006 season.
Jones will provide a left-handed swing, possibly hit leadoff and spend some time in center field, as Alfredo Amezaga and Cody Ross have combined for a .209 batting average with four longballs and 16 RBIs while platooning center.

No wonder he couldn't hit as a Tiger! He slept through his at bats!
