Dirty Water Calls Lowell Home

After testing the free agent waters in the open market (and reportedly receiving a four-year, $50 million offer from the Phillies), it appears that Mike Lowell has spurned the chance at more money and more years to come back home to Boston. Lowell's new deal, agreed to in principle by both sides, is reportedly a three-year/$37.5 million contract- up slightly from the 3/36 deal that was previously on the table.

No official announcement yet from the Red Sox, but according to a source quoted in the Boston Globe, "the two sides [have] a few language issues to work out... but the contract [is] essentially done."

Curt Schilling, the other high profile offseason resigning in Boston, said it best when he wrote on his blog, simply, "SWEET!" Indeed.
