Storytime: Brandon Webb

Brandon Webb, reflecting the potential record, lost.
This one's for all the little tykes that read our blog.

We're sorry for dropping so many F-bombs... Well, okay. No, we're fuckin' not.

Once upon a time, there was a big league pitcher named Brandon Webb.

He pitched pretty well during the first five months of his fifth season in the game. Racking up 14 wins and 166 strikeouts is enough to get you the nod as a staff ace. Even better is a scoreless streak! One dead-eye set on breaking a record. Sixty innings of no-run baseball - just 18 more.

Could he do it?

Well, no. After 42 innings without allowing a batter to cross home plate, Webb felt the sweet relief of watching Gabe Gross score on Prince Fielder's first-inning line drive to left. There it went - the pressure was off.

Of course, our story still has a happy ending. Webb's scoreless streak may have been lost, but he led his Arizona Diamondbacks team to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The end.

I was kinda amazed when he made it to 42 so I don't feel to bad for him. Plus he's still got plenty of time to go for records etc.
