In another successful attempt to sway votes for his NL Cy Young candidacy, San Diego Padres hurler Jake Peavy earned his 15th win, striking out eleven Arizona Diamondbacks for a 3-1 victory to slide within 2 games in the West.
Peavy (2.18 ERA) tied his career high in wins (with just 5 losses on the season) and reached the double digits in K's for the 8th time for an NL-leading 197 strikeouts. The stud righty also became San Diego's career leader in strikeouts, passing Andy Benes.
The only other pitcher in the majors with a lower ERA than Peavy is fellow Padre Chris Young (9-4, 2.12 ERA), who is also awesome.
The NL West's top two teams will play six more crucial games over the next 10 days. Following this four-game set, they will play three more in Phoenix starting next Monday. Time to pull out the big guns!
