Jose Offerman Is Crazy

One-time All-Star and total loon, Jose Offerman was charged with two counts of second-degree assault after attacking a Bridgeport Bluefish pitcher and catcher during an independent minor league ballgame with his bat yesterday.

Playing for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, Offerman homered in the first inning. The very next inning, he was nailed by a pitch from Bluefish starter Matt Beech and immediately charged the mound with his bat.

Offerman, who has always been sort of ornery, hit Beech in the hands and catcher John Nathans in the head with the bat. Of course, this sparked a sweet brawl.

After a 20-minute delay, Offerman and Beech along with Bridgeport manager and former big league hurler Tommy John were all tossed out. Beech's finger was broken and Nathans suffered concussive-like symptoms.

Offerman posted $10,000 bond and is due to appear in court on Aug. 23rd.

I, Stu, had to go off-topic at RandBall to get him to mention this. I should've known my home away from Rand had my back.

The Deadspin thread on this says that Carl Everett is Offerman's teammate. This seems...a poor decision.
