Thursday's Babelicious Scoreboard

Verlander dominates the Tribe. In what was supposed to be the American League marquee matchup of the week, Detroit Tigers hurler Justin Verlander out-shone Cleveland Indians ace C.C. Sabathia, denying Captain Cheeseburger his 13th victory to inch the defending AL Champs within one game of catching the division-leading Tribe.

In seven strong innings, Verlander (10-3, 3.14 ERA) gave up three runs - two earned - on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

He fanned five in a row from the end of the third to the start of the fifth.

God, what a fatass. The left-handed Sabathia (12-3, 3.58 ERA) surrendered a season-high seven runs in just four innings, with six coming on three longballs.

Carlos Guillen and Placido Polanco both hit homers for the Tigers along with Gary Sheffield, who had three RBIs, giving him a career 1,557 to pass Hall of Famer Willie McCovey for 37th on the all-time list.

Victor Martinez went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs for the Indians.
