Saturday's Babelicious Scoreboard

Pssh, I'm such a homer. I don't even care, either. It's Sunday and Jason Tyner hit a home run last night! Weeeeeeeeeee!

Besides that exciting news, Johan Santana (11-8, 2.92 ERA) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning for the Minnesota Twins, struck out twelve (that's a dozen, cousin) and eventually allowed 2 runs on four hits. Nine of those K's came in the span of eleven batters.

He didn't get the decision, though. The victory went to the sidewinder who was snubbed for the Midsummer Classic, Pat Neshek. Pitching a perfect eighth, Neesh helped the Twins snap a five-game skid and is now 6-1 with a 1.98 ERA in 51 appearances for the club.

Cleveland Indians starter Jake Westbrook pitched seven solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts, but walked three.

Tyner hit his first career big league homer to kick-start a two-run third after 1,220 at-bats without one - the longest streak by an active player. Justin Morneau added an RBI single in the inning (his 88th) to make it 2-0.

Travis Hafner, the monster, smashed a two-run shot to deep right field in the seventh off Santana that brought the sellout crowd to its feet at the Jake, but that was all the Twins were going to allow for the evening.

Rookie third baseman Brian Buscher drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning off Tribe closer Joe Borowski on a fielder's choice grounder after Torii Hunter's leadoff double.

Joe Nathan shut it down to earn his 21st save in 23 opportunities.

Scary moment on the third baseline: Twins third-base coach Scott Ulger watched the rally from the bench, firmly holding an icepack to his jaw, where he was nailed by a line drive off the bat of Casey Blake in the eighth.

That Tyner homer was so great. Now we get to wait til he breaks the record for longest home run drought in the majors!
