Hillenbrand Designated For Assignment

Hillenbrand lays down a sweet bunt in BP.
Shea Hillenbrand was unhappy with being benched and used as a reserve, so he wanted out. He's gotten his wish.

With the emergence of left fielder Reggie Willits and first baseman Casey Kotchman, there was no room in the starting lineup for the Los Angeles Angels' first baseman/DH. He was designated for assignment on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old Hillenbrand was batting just .254 with three homers and 22 RBIs for the Angels and after struggling at the plate, lost his job as the full-time designated hitter in the beginning of June.

The Halos have 10 days to trade, release or demote him to the minors.
