Jack Cust is a Big Boy

With one giant swing of the bat, Jack Cust topped off a pretty good week.

He homered for the fourth straight day - his sixth in seven games since joining the Oakland Athletics - polishing off a five-run ninth with a three-run shot that gave the A’s a 10-7 victory over the Cleveland Indians last night.
Post game, Cust showed some modesty, "I'm just trying to take advantage of the opportunity and make a contribution somehow."
His bat: not so modest.

Cust was acquired under the radar from the San Diego Padres on May 3rd. With Mike Piazza on the disabled list nursing an injured shoulder, the A's called up Cust to be their regular DH. Good call.

The lefty nailed one in his first game May 6th at Tampa Bay, then hit two last Thursday against Kansas City before smoking a longball in each of the three games against Cleveland. His six homers in his first 26 at-bats with the team is of course, an Oakland record.

In addition to his 6 homers (tied with Nick Swisher for the club lead) Cust is batting .346 and has hit safely in all seven games this season, driving in 14 runs.

I automatically keep trying to turn Cust's name into "Custer" or "Custard" or something else. It's just too short and weird to have "Jack Cust" as your name; get an extra syllable or something!

At least it's not Coff.
